CATEGORIES - A VOUS LA PAROLE 2005

 

A. Individual prose and poetry: Students recite from memory a poem or passage from French

literature.Difficulty and length of presentations must be appropriate to level.

Time limit for all levels = 4 minutes maximum

    Category 1 A:   7th grade - some previous French study

       Category 1 B:   7th grade - no previous French study

       Category 2 A:   8th grade - some previous French study

       Category 2 B:   8th grade - no previous French study

       Category 3 A:   French I - some previous French study

       Category 3 B:   French I - no previous French study                                    

       Category 4:     French II                                                                                      

       Category 5:     French III

      Category 6:     French IV

      Category 7:     French V and above

       Category 8:     Special - for students who have lived more than 6 months in a francophone country after age 6, or

who live in a home where French is spoken – use Cat. 8 for any type of presentation by a native

speaker, but please realize that there is no piano in this room.                                            

 

B. Theater: Time limit = See below. All groups must participate in the category appropriate for the most

experienced student(s) in the group.

                                   Note…make sure that theater performances fall within the time limits - set-up

should be done quickly and should fall into the judging portion of the previous

performance or the time limit listed below.

 

    Category 9:     Beginning theater - Presentation of culturally authentic skits.

(French I & II) (2-4 minutes including set-up)

       Category 10:   Intermediate theater - Presentation of scenes from francophone literature.

(French III) (4-6 minutes including set-up)

       Category 11:   Advanced theater - Presentation of scenes from francophone literature.

                                          (French IV and beyond) (6-8 minutes including set-up)

 

C. CEsar-ettes: Videos. Time = 8 mins. maximum

                           Subject of video: Un Jeu de Télé-Réalité (must be original)

Category 12:   Video presentations. Open to all levels, but each person listed must pay the $6. fee

 

D. SONG: Time = 5 minutes (Your set-up should be included in this 5 mins. or during the judging portion

                           of the group competing before you).

            All groups must participate in the category appropriate for most experienced student(s).

NO RECORDINGS WITH SONG LYRICS IN THE BACKGROUND ARE ALLOWED.

Category 13:   Beginning - Solo. (French I, II & III students)

  Category 14:   Beginning - Small group (2-4 students). (French I, II & III students)

       Category 15:   Beginning - Large group (more than 4). (French I, II & III students)    

       Category 16:   Advanced - Solo (French IV students and beyond)

       Category 17:   Advanced - Small group (2-4 students). (French IV students and beyond)              

       Category 18:   Advanced - Large group (more than 4). (French IV students and beyond)

 

E.     Extemporaneous reading: Individual students read a short prose selection extemporaneously on-site.                                                          Open to grades 9-12 only. Time = 5 minutes prep time on-site

Category 19:   Beginner - (French I & II)                                                                         

       Category 20:   Intermediate - (French III)

       Category 21:   Advanced - (French IV and beyond)

 

F. Extemporaneous conversation: Pairs of students randomly draw a conversation situation which they

    prepare and present. Topics include such subjects as the home, school, eating out, shopping, family, etc. Use of "tu"

    versus "vous" is important in this category. Only open to students in French IV and beyond. No native speakers.

Time = 5 minutes (+ 5 minutes prep time on-site)

 

Category 22: Conversation - Open to pairs of students in French IV or beyond.
